Manuel P. Barrocas had the honour to meet Lech Walesa during the IBA (International Bar Association) annual conference in Paris and in October 2023.
Lech Walesa was President of Poland between December 1990 and December 1995.
He had co-founded and led the Solidarity trade union and was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1983 for his decisive action in fighting against the repression of the rights of workers at the Gdansk Shipyard where he worked. He contributed decisively towards bringing to an end the influence that the Polish and the USSR communist parties had over trade unions and their activities.
Walesa became a symbol of freedom in the struggle against the Polish communist party and was one of the leaders of movements that firmly opposed communism in Central Europe and the Soviet Union.
Barrocas e Associados would like to pay tribute to President Lech Walesa for his role in helping end communism in Poland and opening the doors for freedom to spread to other European countries.
